Wolfgang Van Halen reveals that Eddie Van Halen cried when he heard the song "Distance"

“I don’t think he was aware of its meaning to me, he just understood it as a song about loss,” Wolf says

In November 2020, Wolfgang Van Halen released, under the name of his solo band, Mammoth WVH , a moving song in tribute to his late father, the legendary Eddie Van Halen , who passed away in October after an intense battle with cancer.

What many didn't realize is that the track had actually been written before the guitarist's death, and he even had the chance to hear the song that would be dedicated to him after his sudden passing, Wolf tells HardDrive Radio , adding that the whole family was moved by the tribute.

“I remember when I first showed it to my father, maybe it was out of pride or also because of the music in general, he cried when he heard it,” she says. “I don’t think he was aware of its meaning to me, he just understood it as a song about loss.”
